Software adoption championed

Software adoption should be at the top of the strategic agenda for organisations wanting to ensure successful digital transformations, says a global software company.

"We are in the application economy where software becomes a critical enabler of digital transformation, so businesses need to have agile software development processes that enable rapid change during intense competition and changing user behaviour," said Nick Lim, vice-president for Asean and Greater China for CA Technologies.

Studies show that at least half of S&P 500 companies will replace their traditional products and services digitally over the next decade, he said.

As software increasingly becomes the core business of companies, Mr Lim said organisations need to build what he termed a modern software factory -- a structured collection of related software assets that aids in producing apps or software components according to specific, extremely defined end-user requirements through an assembly process.

An automated process enables companies to rapidly build and deliver customer-focused innovation, reduce errors, speed up application launches, and receive new software updates faster, he said.

CA Technologies provides software suites enabling organisations to automate the design of new apps and enhance existing apps based on user requirements and product quality.

Mr Lim said organisations need to adopt DevOps practices, a clipped compound of software development and information technology operations referring to a set of methods that emphasise the collaboration and communication of software developers and IT professionals while automating software delivery and infrastructure change processes.

DevOps aims at establishing a culture where building, testing, and releasing software can happen rapidly, frequently and more reliably.

A survey conducted by Coleman Parkes Research of 1,770 executives in 21 countries, including Thailand, found that DevOps methodology enabled them to develop, test and release new apps 36% faster than using the traditional method, while they made decisions 40% faster.

Mr Lim said CA Technologies sees strong demand for digital transformation in Thailand in three sectors: financial services, telecom and the public sector.
