The Fastest Growing Temp Jobs for 2015

The growth in temporary jobs doesn't look to be slowing anytime soon, new research shows.

Temporary employment, which grew by 57 percent over the past five years, is expected to continue that growth over the next five. Analysis from CareerBuilder revealed that temporary and contract jobs, of which there are currently nearly 3 million, are projected to increase by 3 percent over the next year and 13 percent through 2019.

"Temporary employment will continue on an upward trajectory as companies look for ways to quickly adapt to market dynamics," Eric Gilpin, president of CareerBuilder's staffing and recruiting and health care divisions, said in a statement. "Two in five U.S. employers expect to hire temporary or contract workers this year, which opens new doors for workers who want to build relationships with different organizations and explore career options."

CareerBuilder compiled a list of fast-growing occupations for temporary employment over the next five years. Among jobs that pay less than $15 per hour, temporary employment is expected to grow in double digits in a variety of areas, including:

  • Home health aides – 15 percent growth
  • Gaming dealers – 14 percent growth
  • Child care workers – 14 percent growth
  • Restaurant cooks – 14 percent growth
  • Substitute teachers – 14 percent growth
  • Demonstrators and product promoters – 14 percent growth
  • Retail salesperson – 14 percent growth
  • Landscaping workers and groundskeepers – 13 percent growth
  • Taxi drivers and chauffeurs – 13 percent growth
  • Maids and housekeepers – 13 percent growth
  • Pharmacy technicians – 13 percent growth
  • Bakers – 10 percent growth

Among positions that pay at least $15 per hour, hot areas for temporary jobs include:

  • Computer systems analysts – 19 percent growth
  • Accountants and auditors – 14 percent growth
  • Management analysts – 14 percent growth
  • Computer user support specialists – 14 percent growth
  • Software developers, applications – 14 percent growth
  • Customer service representatives – 14 percent growth
  • Heavy- and tractor-trailer truck drivers – 14 percent growth
  • Registered nurses – 14 percent growth
  • Maintenance and repair workers – 14 percent growth
  • Machinists –13 percent growth
  • Construction laborers – 13 percent growth
  • Secretaries and administrative assistants, except legal, medical and executive – 13 percent growth

The study was based on data from Economic Modeling Specialists Intl., CareerBuilder's labor market analysis arm that pulls data from more than 90 national and state employment resources.
