Acer's new Chromebook is a powerful business machine at an affordable price. The refreshed Chromebook C720 improved upon last year's C720P model with a speedy Intel Core i3 processor, making it one of the fastest Chromebooks money can buy. And the $349 machine retains the easy-to-use operating system and affordable price point of other Chromebooks.

The C720 runs on Chrome OS, a browser-based operating system from Google. It can't run Windows or Mac programs, so it might not be suitable for business users who rely on a particular piece of software made for those platforms. But it's a decent option for users who only need to perform basic tasks, like managing an email inbox, creating and editing documents, and browsing the Web.

The new Chromebook C720 hits store shelves later this month. Read on for three features that make it good for business.

Faster processor

Chromebooks aren't known for their powerful hardware, and that's what makes the new Chromebook C720 stand out from the pack. The machine packs a relatively speedy Core i3 processor that puts its power and speed on a par with those of a midrange Windows notebook. That means business users can expect faster overall performance and snappier multitasking.

Chrome OS upgrades

Chrome OS is a bit limited compared to other desktop operating systems, but a slew of updates this year will make it better for business. Those updates include security-related features, including the ability to wirelessly connect your Android smartphone to your Chromebook, to quickly and easily unlock your device. Other additions include better support for offline apps, and the ability to view and respond to smartphone messages right on your Chromebook.

Longer battery life

The original Chromebook C720P boasted pretty good battery life, running up to 7.5 hours on a charge. Acer says the refreshed C720 boasts a bigger battery that offers about an hour of extra longevity, despite the laptop's more powerful processor. That makes it a good pick for business users who need a notebook with all-day battery life.
