Looking for an affordable Windows Phone that doesn't compromise on power and performance? Check out the Lumia 635.

Sprint and Microsoft announced this week that the Lumia 635 will soon be available on the Sprint network at a superaffordable off-contract price of $100. Sprint will start selling the device online through its prepaid Virgin Mobile and Boost Mobile services on Dec. 23, and it will hit stores and retail partners in January.

The Lumia 635 is powered by Windows Phone 8.1, and features high-performance hardware and a plethora of security features. Could this device be the Windows Phone for your business?

Productivity

The Lumia 635 is equipped with a 4.5-inch display and Windows Phone 8.1 to help you stay productive and run your business from your smartphone. It's packed with business apps like Microsoft Office — including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and OneDrive storage — Lync, Adobe Reader and Company Hub. You can also easily manage your device and connectivity with Exchange ActiveSync, Microsoft System Center, OMA Client Provisioning, OMA Device Management and Windows Intune.

Additionally, Windows Phone 8.1 comes with Action Center, a new feature that organizes all your chats, social media feeds and settings in one place; and Word Flow keyboard, which speeds up conversations by learning your typing habits and word choices.

It also comes with Cortana, Windows Phone's Bing-powered personal assistant. Cortana can keep track and remind you of everything from meetings and appointments to flight alerts, traffic conditions, contacts' birthdays and special occasions, tasks, errands and more. It also "learns" about its users and, over time, can make suggestions and tailor results to their personal interests, friends and favorite things.

Performance

Powered by a Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor, the Lumia 635 is fast and delivers high performance. It comes with 8GB of memory and supports a microSD expansion up to 128GB.

In addition to common ports and connectivity points like USB 2.0, Bluetooth 4.0, micro USB and micro USB-B, the Lumia 635 offers wireless sharing via screen projection and peer-to-peer tools, such as the Lumia Beamer, Lumia Storyteller and the Play to DLNA app.

Its battery life doesn't disappoint, either. The device ships with a replaceable 1830-mAh battery, which offers up to 18.6 hours of talk time, 9.4 hours of Wi-Fi browsing and 17.3 hours of standby.

Security

If you're worried about security, the Lumia 635 has you covered. Like many other devices, it can lock and unlock your screen with a PIN or passcode, but it also offers several business-level security features to keep your device and data safe, including the following:

  • Device: Mobile VPN for secure connection to your network; Mobile Device Management to manage identities and connections; secure boot; signed firmware updates and hardware accelerated device encryption; data backup and restore; and remote lock and wipe in case you lose your device or it gets stolen.
  • Apps: Application certification to make sure apps are legitimate, and application sandboxing to isolate and secure sensitive apps and data from the rest of your device.
  • Internet and Wi-Fi: Protect your device with anti-phishing tools that are integrated right into your mobile Web browser. You can also protect your Wi-Fi connections with WPA, WEP, WPA2, WPA2-Enterprise, WPA2-Personal, WPA-Enterprise, EAP-SIM, WPA-Personal, and EAP-TTLS/MSCHAPv2 and other Wi-Fi security modes.
  • Security standards: If you deal with very sensitive data, the Lumia 635 is compliant with TLS v1.0, TLS v1.1, TLS v1.2, SSL v3.0 and Suite B ciphers security standards.
