If you're looking for a new job, business partners and other career opportunities, your LinkedIn profile has to be on point. Not only is LinkedIn considered your online résumé, but it's often one of the first things people see when they search for you online.
To help job seekers, business owners and other professionals build the best profile possible, LinkedIn has released several changes to make it easier to showcase your experience, talents, qualifications and accomplishments.
After LinkedIn discussed its platform with small and medium-size businesses, students and university advisers, the company decided to simplify the editing process to allow for a better user experience.
Here are the changes users will see on LinkedIn, and how to use them.
Click to edit
Previously, users had to click the "edit" button to edit the entire profile or specific sections. Now, simply click on the area you'd like to edit and begin typing to make changes.
View profile
This handy feature, which is also available on Facebook, lets users see how their profile looks to others. The "View profile" button is located above your profile for easy access.
Showcase accomplishments
You can now move around sections of your profile, so that your most significant accomplishments and qualifications are displayed first. For instance, your summary and experience appear on top of your profile by default. But if you have certifications, patents, volunteer work and other recognitions you'd like to showcase, simply move them to above everything else on your profile to catch potential employers' or business partners' attention.
Keyword suggestions
Want more people to discover your LinkedIn profile? Keyword suggestions can help by recommending specific keywords that people are searching for. Add these keywords to your profile in order to appear more often in search results and boost your opportunities. Note that this feature is available only to premium members.
Profile tips
As you edit your profile, LinkedIn will make suggestions for how to improve it. These include ways to make your profile more visible to employers and tips for optimizing sections like your headline and summary.
These new updates are now available to all users across the LinkedIn platform.
