Dell's best business tablet has been upgraded for 2014 with a thinner, lighter design. The Dell Venue 11 Pro 7000 packs a sharp 11-inch display, a long-lasting battery and a slim design, and runs on the full desktop version of Windows 8.1. And like last year's model, it comes with a detachable keyboard dock, making it a solid alternative to Microsoft's Surface Pro 3. The Venue 11 Pro 7000 hits shelves Nov. 11, starting at a pretty affordable $699 price point. While we wait to get our hands on the device for a full review, here are three features that make it good for work.
Keyboard dock
Dell is packing in a keyboard dock with the Venue 11 Pro 7000. Snap it on when you want to type, and pull it apart when you want to use the device like a tablet. The keyboard connects to the slate via a sturdy hinge, so you can adjust the viewing angle however you like, and fold the tablet down to protect the display when it's not in use.
Thin, light design
The new Venue 11 Pro 7000 features a thin, fan-less design, thanks to its new, more power-efficient Intel Core M processor. It offers similar performance to the desktop-grade Intel Core i5 chip in last year's model, but it doesn't require a fan, so the tablet is thinner and about 15 percent lighter at 1.62 lbs. That will help make it more manageable if you plan to carry it on your daily commute.
Other hardware highlights include 4GB of RAM for snappy multitasking and 64GB of onboard storage, with the option to expand the storage by up to 128GB via a micro SD card slot.
Connectivity
Dell's tablet also includes a good number of connectivity options, including a full-size USB 3.0 port so you can connect a mouse or external hard drive. A desktop dock is also available; snap in your tablet to add a ton of extra ports so you can use desktop accessories like a full-size keyboard, mouse and larger monitor.
