Need more engagement on Facebook? If your business has an Android mobile app, a new feature can help. Whether you want customers to start posting about your business on their Timelines or you simply need more followers on your Facebook page, the Android Like Button offers an automated way for customers to share your products and services with their Facebook friends — straight from their mobile devices.

Facebook announced recently that the Like Button is now available on all Android mobile apps. Previously only available on iOS apps, this new Android feature aims to help businesses increase Facebook engagement by making it easier for customers to "like" their Facebook page and share content directly from their app itself.

In addition to increasing engagement, there are several benefits to this new feature. First, to best drive engagement, you get full control over how and when the Like Button appears. You can also encourage engagement by reminding customers to "like" your page and share content over time as they use the app. Lastly, customers no longer have to deal with the hassle of manually opening the Facebook app or website to start engaging.

How it works

Facebook describes the Like Button as the "quickest way for people to share content with their friends." With this in mind, the Android app Like Button requires only a single tap for customers to start posting content from your app to their Facebook profiles.

When a customer clicks on the Like Button from your app, the feature will automatically launch the Facebook app to complete the process. If the customer hasn't installed the Facebook app, the feature will launch an in-app WebView version of Facebook instead.

How to increase engagement

To help businesses make the most of the Android Like Button, Facebook developers suggest implementing the following strategies:

  • When is the most relevant time to show the Like Button? Based on how customers engage with your app, you can show the Like Button either right when your app launches or after a customer has been using your app for some time. Note, however, that presenting customers with the Like Button right when your app launches works best if your app already has a strong brand association or if customers are already familiar with the app on other platforms.
  • How should you launch the Like Button? Determine the best way to ask users to "like" your Facebook page or share content. Will pop-up dialogues work best? Should you place it on the main or home screen? Or should the button appear in other parts of the app, too?
  • Where is the best place for the Like Button? If you decide to place the Like Button in your main screen or in other areas of your app, find out where on each screen the Like Button will work best. Facebook suggests testing different locations to find out which position drives the most engagement.
