Nokia's latest midrange smartphone is set to compete with flagship phones, thanks to its premium design. The Nokia Lumia 830 packs an aluminum frame, a sharp 5-inch display, built-in wireless charging, screen- sharing capabilities and more. Exact pricing and availability details for the U.S. release of the phone haven't yet been announced, but Microsoft says the device will be available later this month at an affordable midrange price point. Get a hands-on look at the Nokia Lumia 830 at our sister site Laptop Mag, or read on for three features that make it good for work.
Value
Microsoft is calling the Lumia 830 its "first affordable flagship" smartphone, though in terms of speed and picture quality the device can't compete with more premium flagship phones such as Samsung's Galaxy S5 or Apple's iPhone 5s. Regardless, it looks like the Lumia 830 is set to deliver good value at a reasonable price. Under the hood it includes a quad-core processor that gives pretty good performance, plus 1GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage. And the phone's brushed aluminum frame adds a premium look and feel that you won't find on many midrange smartphones.
Lumia accessories
The Lumia 830 supports a couple of brand-new accessories that could really benefit business users. That includes the Nokia Wireless Charging Stand, which lets you keep your smartphone charged by simply setting it on a pad on your desk, with no wires required. The other new accessory, the awkwardly named Screen-Sharing for Lumia Phones HD-10, lets you beam whatever is on your Lumia 830 to any HDMI-equipped monitor or projector, which could come in handy for business presentations.
Windows 8.1
The Lumia 830 runs on the most recent version of Windows Phone 8.1, which comes with tons of handy features for business users. That includes native integration with Microsoft Office, and Cortana, a voice-activated digital assistant that lets you set an alarm, take notes, perform Web searches and more using just your voice. Newer updates to Windows Phone 8.1 include special phone deployment tools that let you control how your employees use company-owned smartphones by restricting which apps can be installed. Also included is the ability to save and export app settings to other devices to quickly configure new work phones.
