A stylus can turn your phablet into a note-taking machine, but only a few smartphones have been designed with stylus integration in mind. Now LG is jumping on the bandwagon with a pen-equipped version of its flagship 5.3-inch LG G3 smartphone. The LG G3 Stylus was briefly shown this week in a promotional video for the LG G3 Beat, the company's new 5-inch midrange phone.

The G3 Stylus appears to feature a slot on its backside to stow the stylus when it's not in use, which is a big perk for dedicated pen users. After all, you can buy a capacitive stylus and use it with just about any smartphone, but you're not likely to have the accessory handy if there's nowhere to put it when you're done. It's also possible that the G3 Stylus will launch with special note-taking software to make the stylus even more useful, though details like that haven't yet been announced.

It also appears that the G3 Stylus packs a slightly bigger screen than the standard 5.3-inch G3. That could be another perk for business users who use their smartphone for screen-intensive tasks such as managing their email inbox or editing documents. LG hasn't yet confirmed the screen size for the G3 Stylus, however.

The new pen-equipped phone was revealed just weeks before Samsung is expected to unveil the so-called Galaxy Note 4, a successor device to last year's Galaxy Note 3. The Note 3 is still one of the best business phones ever, thanks to its large 5.7-inch screen and stylus integration. That phone's pen has a single button on the side that launches a note-taking application with one press so you can jot down a note quickly and easily; it's yet to be seen if LG's stylus will support similar functionality.
